Evaluation of a channel simulator

Abstract: In a previous final report by Magnus Anehem the construction of a channel simulator based on the equipment DSP900 was presented. There was however no evaluation of the performance of the simulator included in that report. In this final report the evaluation of the channel simulator is presented. A number of potential problems are identified and based on the identificaion of these problems a number of tests are performed. The tests are evaluating the statistical aspects of the noise and fading created in the simulator. The method used for the evaluation of these tests are a number of hypothesis tests.
In the concluding remarks we claim that the simulator did not generate noise with strength given by the standard deviation of the noise, neither is the fading generated with strength given in terms of standard deviation, nor is the fading Rayleigh distributed with given parameters, as claimed. The simulator is thus not well suited for usage in the current state.
